The 7 Chakras

What are chakras? There are 7 chakra points and energy centres that are located in our body. For the chakras to be functioning properly, they all need to be aligned, open and balanced. If they get blocked, you may experience physical and emotional symptoms connected to one or more of the chakras.

The base chakra (colour: red, located at the bottom of the spine)

The base chakra is very connected to our material world - so anything related to money, food / water, shelter etc.

When this chakra is balanced and open, it provides us with a foundation for life. We feel more independent, secure, stable, grounded and confident. But when the base chakra becomes blocked - this creates anxiety, control, frustration, fear, jealousy, depression, isolation, panic attacks, insecurity and overthinking.

Physically, the base chakra is associated with - Your hips, legs, feet, joints, bones, pelvic floor,

How to balance the base chakra? Spend time in nature, do some gardening, go for a walk, do yoga, pilates or dance. Reiki, connect with friends and family, use positive affirmations, be in a positive environment.

The Sacral chakra (colour: orange, located below the navel)

This chakra is responsible for our sexuality, creativity and emotions.

When the sacral chakra is open and balanced, it helps us to find the energy to be creative, it allows us to feel connected, and to develop intimate relationships with ourselves, and the people around us. When it is blocked, we start to feel detached, low in energy, lonely, isolated, repressed emotions may show up. We might react / get defensive, and sometimes become co-dependent.

Physically, the sacral chakra is associated with - The lower back, sex organs, kidney, hips, waist, womb / uterus, prostate, bladder, reproductive system.

How to balance the Sacral chakra? Reflect, Journal, Meditate, Get creative, Yoga, Dance (movement), Reiki.

The Solar Plexus chakra (colour: yellow, located above the navel / abdomen)

When this chakra is opened and balanced, we feel confident, motivated, we have a sense of purpose, and we gain control of our own lives. When this chakra is blocked, we can feel un-motivated, have low self esteem, feel burnt out, it may be difficult making decisions. You may also experience nausea, bloating or other digestive issues.
